Endura® Wrap-Around Shrink Labeling Process from B&H Creates Dynamic Shelf Presence and Reduces Costs
11-04-2004 - (Ceres, CA) B&H Labeling Systems will exhibit its patented Endura® Shrink labeling process at Pack Expo booth # S-1613. Endura combines high-speed roll-fed labeling with the BH700™ Shrink System to label contoured containers. As product manufacturers increasingly look for an affordable way to create an eye-catching shelf presence, wrap-around shrink labeling is becoming the favored choice. Compared to shrink sleeve labeling, Endura dramatically reduces costs. Compared to pre-printed litho-decorated containers, Endura achieves significant inventory reduction and allows for cost-effective short production runs.
In the Endura process, shrinkable roll-fed labels are applied to containers using metered hot-melt glue or solvent adhesive. Containers are then conveyed through the BH700 Shrink System, where temperature-controlled hot air guns gently warm the label area. The labels shrink to perfectly embrace the contour of the product.
With the latest in roll-fed technology and an ever-expanding assortment of shrinkable label materials, the Endura process offers packagers the ability to label a wider variety of shaped containers, from innovative contour profiles to necked-in aerosol cans. B&H’s wrap-around shrink technology handles metal, glass, plastic and fiberboard containers ranging in size from two to five inches in diameter (50.8 to 127 mm) at speeds up to 500 containers per minute.
Applying labels with wrap-around shrink technology is substantially less expensive than using shrink sleeve labeling in terms of initial capital investment, change part costs and label material costs. Line speeds are typically faster with a wrap-around shrink system and overall machine productivity is higher due to reduced scrap rates, faster changeover times and decreased machine maintenance.
In the aerosol industry, where the proliferation of private labels has created an inventory challenge in terms of both warehouse space and carrying costs, B&H’s Endura process is of particular interest. Rather than carrying hundreds of litho-decorated cans, manufacturers are turning to B&H wrap-around shrink labeling technology to label bright containers. Labels applied on a just-in-time basis make short production runs affordable. Furthermore, labels can be obtained more quickly than pre-printed cans, which allow new products to be in production more rapidly.
B&H’s Endura process can handle a wide range of label material substrates, including heat shrinkable polypropylene, polyvinylchloride, polyethylene, polystyrene and polyolefin blends. High-impact decoration with colorful graphics enhances product image and helps differentiate products on the market shelf. Just-in-time decorative flexibility further helps processors differentiate their products with seasonal and promotional package decoration.
